Life is full of special occasions, and as the Editorial Director for Martha Stewart Weddings since its very early days, I've thought a lot about how to make your "big day" - but also the everyday - meaningful and memorable. My mantra is "make it personal.” My husband would tell you this doesn't justify a closet full of boxes with stickers, favors, ribbons, confetti, decorations and multicolored candies, but I disagree! For me, small details and personal touches, like displaying a favorite candy in the theme color, make any event special.
Like every kid, I loved my own birthday and remember planning all the details with my mom, from designing the invitations to the party games, and I continue to use my own illustrations (and my mom's calligraphy) on invitations, place cards, favors and other decorative details for all kinds of events and occasions.
Over the past 20 years, my experience with weddings and parties of all kinds, sizes and cultures has allowed me to become Martha Stewart's Celebrations Expert. I love sharing my tips and tricks with audiences nationwide, through appearances on The Martha Stewart Show, NBC's TODAY, other news programs and cable appearances on the Style Network and E! weddings specials. I was glad to put some of my tips and advice into a book I wrote and illustrated, for newly engaged brides called Our Wedding Scrapbook, a unique memory-keeping journal and scrapbook to preserve the important moments of your big day.
I consider all these moments pages in my life’s scrapbook, and a from it all “Darcy Miller Celebrations” was born.
I currently live in NYC with my husband, three daughters, and more scrapbooks and scrapboxes than I could possibly count. I believe in preserving both the important milestones and everyday occasions. From a 50-pound scrapbook for my wedding, to embellished travel journals, and numerous photo albums for my three girls, there is no moment too small.
