Between business lunches, staff birthdays, and celebratory events, we’re entertaining almost every day at Darcy Miller Designs. So, we worked with California Closets to build our shelving unit with part of it in the kitchen and the rest in the main room. It makes the most of our small space, and is stocked  with our go-tos for setting the table, entertaining, and photo shoots. Here’s how we keep it organized and decorative:

Keep it simple. Our shelves are stocked with basic drinking glasses and white plates, because I think food always looks best on white.

Make it accessible. We keep our basics in the wide shelves over the kitchen counter where they’re easy to reach.

Double down. Plastic risers let us keep double the number of glasses on one shelf. And, we have another riser with built in drawers holding some gold flatware and serving pieces. Did I mention that we tried to use every square inch of our space?

Add some extras. To the right of the “kitchen shelves” is another row of longer, narrower shelves where we store special items, including vintage finds and gold-accented barware which add eclectic elegance to the wall. There’s even a silver toast rack! Traditionally, toast racks are used at breakfast, but we use ours to sort whatever is on the kitchen counter from cocktail napkins to mail, or just something fun.

Pick a palette and stick to it. The kitchen itself is white with gold accents. All extra touches are gold including serving pieces, stools, and even the faucet. Although you can’t see them here, we even added affordable gold knobs to the cabinets, carrying the color scheme through.
