Kentucky Derby, Royal Wedding, paper hat, bridal shower, craft bar, paper craft, diy accessories, wedding craft

Hats off to you for throwing the most fun Kentucky Derby gathering or Royal Wedding viewing party! And hats on to your guests. Invite them to craft their own toppers for the horse race, or fascinators to rival Princess Beatrice’s. For an interactive make-your-own-hat bar—which would also be the perfect accessory for a tea-party-themed shower or birthday—just set out paper plates, ribbons, and whatever other trim you have on hand and let it all go to their heads.

What You’ll Need:

How To:

Or, get the pieces ready yourself before the party by cutting out paper strips (for guests to shape into circles, bows, and other fancy shapes), and downloading the flower template, printing, and cutting out. (For the center detail on the flowers, just cut out 2” by 1” rectangles and snip fringes into the edges.)

Step 2: Set out paper, scissors, feathers, ribbons, paper plates, headbands, tape, glue, a glue gun, and the paper shapes if you’ve pre-cut them.

Step 3: Guests can attach trim to a paper-plate hat using tape, glue dots, or the glue gun.

Step 4: Once a “hat” is finished, use the glue gun to hot glue it to a headband so it can be worn fascinator-style. (If you don’t have a glue gun, try tape!)

Step 5: Invite all the mad hatters to don their creations and settle in around the screen for the moment you’ve all been waiting for, and you’re off to the races—or to the royals!
