Bring your friends in from the cold for a frosty fete decked out in winter whites. A couple of special snow-inspired details go a long way toward creating a warm welcome when the temperatures drop.

Garnish with a Snowflake (Cookie)

To make your winter party extra festive, let snowflakes fall on your drinks. Whether you’re making some hot chocolate or pouring glasses of eggnog like in the picture here, a seasonal cookie is great for garnishing and dunking.

My friend caterer Peter Callahan made these with just sugar cookie dough, a paring knife and a seasonal cookie cutter. The cookies made here are snowflake-shaped, but just about anything will work.

Using a paring knife, cut slits into cookies just as they come out of the oven, when they’re still soft. You might want to do a test on one first to make sure you’re cutting the right size for your glasses. Once the cookies cool and harden, rest then on the rims of your glasses to garnish!

Delectable Desserts

I love serving on-theme sweets at parties, whether cake pops, cookies, or anything in between. Whether it’s snowmen on a stick or iced polar bear cookies, a winter-themed treat can be served or even used as a favor.

Make a snowy scene with square marshmallows on a tray and can even cover in a layer of cotton candy snow. Plant some snow covered tree clipart to complete the winter wonderland.
